Working hard to get to New Orleans... or not...

posted Wednesday, 28 September 2005

Last night, Tuesday, September 27, my partner Joe Carpraro had pretty much dumped me in Tuscaloosa, AL. The reason for that was a personal disagreement.

Though I find it ironic that a person acting that way seeks to aid others, I do hope he delivers the cargoe we had put together. I am currently awaiting a confirmation to that effect. When he does (I hope this is not a matter of "if") I will be able to say that all other failures notwithstanding I managed to contribute to the effort in the form of several hundred dollars' worth of food and other supplies (camping ones mostly).

Meanwhile I am stuck in Tuscaloosa as thus far I have not been able to rent a vehicle. Other means of transportation are limited too. The nearest airport is in Birmingham, AL and I am being told that more likely than not I would have to fly to New Orleans through Atlanta or Houstaon. A bus ride from here to Baton Rouge takes 9 hours (8:55 AM - 6:10 PM). The train only goes as far as Meridian, MS.

So I will see what I can do but due to this sort of difficulty getting around I may be forced to come back. Menawhile, unlike my so-called partner, the people of Tuscaloosa have been nothing but helpful and hospitable.

That is it for now. More to follow, hopefully soon.
